Out with the old
Selling the machine you are replacing
Proceeds from the old machine can help fund the next one. A well-prepared listing reaches buyers beyond your local area.
Trade-in prices from dealers are convenient. A private sale or marketplace listing may take longer but can reach more buyers. Which is better depends on the machine, the market and how quickly you need the cash. This is not advice on which to choose; it is a way to think about it.
Prepare before you list
- Clean it. A washed machine photographs and sells better.
- Gather the paperwork. Service history, serial numbers, hours and any warranty.
- Check for finance. If money is still owing, the lender's interest in the machine has to be dealt with at sale.
- Photograph honestly. Include wear, damage and the hour meter.
- Write a clear description. Make, model, year, hours, attachments, condition and location.
List it on a national marketplace
If you want your machine in front of buyers across the country, you can list it on Anything Marketplace. Fees, listing rules and buyer demand are set out on that site, so check them there before you decide.
Tax and payout
Selling a depreciated asset may have tax consequences, and GST can apply if you are registered. Speak to your accountant before the sale, and see our GST and tax basics chapter for the questions to ask.
Buying the next one
With a sale price in mind, you can work out your deposit and the loan you would need. When you are ready, you can enquire about finance. Approval is subject to lender criteria.
